I've been working on some baby related items. Perhaps it's part of my nesting process.

New Mexico State Fair

I've been busy preparing several quilts for the state fair. Along with my NM centennial quilt, I entered the two quilts pictured below.

I finally finished my brother's wedding quilt. He's been married for almost two years, and his wife is expecting. I thought I should wrap it up before starting their baby quilt. The pattern is Tennessee Waltz.

It was long-arm quilted by Betty Standiferd.

This is my rendition of "Labyrinth Walk" in the April/May 2012 issue of Quilt Magazine. It was designed by Chris Florence and Emily Sirkin.

In other exciting news…the Great Lakes Seaway Trail War of 1812 Quilt Challenge has been featured a second time in Canadian Quilter magazine.

The just published Summer 2012 issue has a feature story on the Great Lakes Seaway Trail War of 1812 Quilt Show.

The magazine editor has agreed to review a third possible feature for the Fall 2012 issue to promote the 2013 Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Show also, so I will keep you in the loop on that theme as it develops.

APS Classroom Store

The APS Classroom Store has many die-cuts you can use on the premises. I recommend applying your paper-backed fusible to the fabric before you arrive. Yu need at least a 5" x 6" rectangle of fabric for small dyes. Place the die foam-side-up on the tray, lay the fabric paper-side-up on the foam, push the die up to the roller, and crank the handle. There is no cost unless you use their consumable materials, such as laminate, copy paper, copy ink, or construction paper.

Click here for a List of Die-Cuts.

Gridlock

Here's the pattern for Gridlock. You could substitute cream and red for a neutral background and scraps, or two coordinating colors.

Avalon

Here's a pattern I designed for the Avalon collection from "In the Beginning Fabrics".

These are the templates.

War of 1812 Quilt

I figured out how to create a diamond border like the one on this quilt.

First, sew together three strips (3", 2 1/2", and 3"). Press toward the center strip.

 Cut 2 1/2" strips at a 45 degree angle.

Mark 1/4" from the raw edge with a Frixion pen.

Match up the strips and pin.

Sew.

War of 1812 Project Inspiration

I am planning on entering the War of 1812 Quilt Challenge. Here are pertinent websites:

These historical pieces are serving as my inspiration:

Winterthur Museum Item #1958.0108
Circa 1810-1813

International Quilt Study Center & Museum Item #2007.034.0001
Circa 1790-1810

International Quilt Study Center & Museum Item #2008.040.0182
Circa 1790-1810

I did not discover this quilt until after completion of my project, but I am including it because it includes the fabric on which I based my piece.
